Though most widely known as the insane drummer behind BRUTAL TRUTH until they disbanded in 99 and he formed TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION, Rich Hoak has been blasting away drums as well as all preconceived notions for... a long fuckin time anyway.

We sent him a few questions concerning the band and our endeavour together and here's what he had to say...

So what has been your relation to the band since forming?

I am the peacemaker. Nihilism, nothingness, emptiness and nonsense is the agenda of Total Fucking Destruction. Our songs are true stories of life in the modern day world. What we do is secret and will disappear with us when we are gone.

How do you feel about the record industry?

Total Fucking Destruction is supported by our friends and fans, and we tour as far and wide as possible to meet new people and reconnect with friends, to learn and communicate through art/grind, and to share in the glorious end of the world party we all now celebrate.

How do you feel about Moshpit Tragedy's sliding scale format?

Total Fucking Destruction has observed the coming together of technology and entertainment corporations to steal the soul of underground DIY music. We've witnessed first-hand the effects of corporations posing as "underground/ alternative/ extreme" culture and the globalized marketing of "niche music genre" scene cultures. Total Fucking Destruction longs for a world of direct and instant communication between musician and listener. Towards these ends, Total Fucking Destruction is honored and totally psyched to join with Moshpit Tragedy Records for a worldwide sliding scale download release of "Total Fucking Destruction Compact Disc Version 1.0". Fuck yeah!

Explain a little about the ideology that went into the original release of CD Version 1.0 and the initial way the recordings were offered before being put onto a CD.

One of the ideas in starting Total Fucking Destruction was to give the music away in order to open lines of communication as quickly as possible. The first 3 releases were self recorded demo cd-r releases which were sold at shows for $2 or $3. As well, all of the music was made available online to download for free. All 3 demos were copyright free, so anyone could make copies to sell or distribute as they saw fit, which many people did. those 3 demos have been released in many forms in many countries. Instead of trying to sell our music, we gave it away as fast as possible, and in turn many doors for Total Fucking Destruction to play live shows and travel and tour.

Does the sliding scale format fit with this ideology?

Yes.

Please elaborate.

Fuck no, I've said enough: the kids will have their say now.
