Moshpit Tragedy Records is a punk/metal label from Canada, which is proudly the very first label to fully adopt a pay-what-you-want (even nothing for most titles) download concept.

Coming into existence on 6/6/06, the label released a handful of cds over the next year and a half before abandoning physical releases entirely, issuing the first 8 sliding-payment downloads in Dec 2007.

While focusing mainly on crust, grind and sludge for it's own imprint, Moshpit Tragedy recently began partnering with other choice labels to include genres such as hardcore, death and black metal. To date, 125 titles have been released across a fairly wide range of genres, although importance is placed on staying within a non-commercial scope.

Although designed to spread mainly by word of mouth (with little conventional advertising), coverage in magazines, blogs, and podcasts has also helped to further exposure.

Now entering it's fifth year of pay-what-you-want downloading, MT continues bring you some truly amazing music at a price you can decide for yourself.
